The Yellow Breeches is a limestone stream with freestone farmland characteristics. Wild, holdover and stocked trout  provide for good action throughout most of the year.

It is one of our local streams that always seems to provide an enjoyable and successful day of fishing. Limestone springs near Centerville, PA is it’s source. Many freestone as well as some limestone tributaries make this mid-size stream a fly fisherman’s dream.  There are various hatches occurring almost year round.  Here are 9 which will need to be in your flybox to be prepared for a year’s fishing : black stonefly, grannom caddis, Hendricksons, sulphurs, gray fox, light Cahills, tricos, brown caddis and whitefly.

Anglers need both overhand and roll casting skills due to the tree-lined banks.  The “Breeches” has really turned on in the last 10 years with heavy reproduction of browns. Even with the extensive stocking program, the wild browns are my mainstay. I prefer fishing and working the open water rather than the overcrowded 1 mile catch and release area in Boiling Springs. I have walked and/or fished almost all of the trout water on the “Breeches” over the past 35 years. Most would agree, I have as much experience and knowledge as any fisherman pursuing the sport of flyfishing.  Living on a tributary (Old Town Run) for over 25 years has given me the opportunity to make key observations which have been valuable for my fishing and instructing quests.
